Creeping Phlox

On my property there are two kinds of phlox, tall phlox and creeping phlox. The creeping phlox blooms early and comes in two varieties.

The dark pink variety blooms first and also fades sooner.

The light blue variety is a later bloomer, but it stays vibrant longer. First only one or two or three flowers appear in the center and along the edges.

Then, in time, more and more flowers join the crowd.

In time, they form a carpet of flowers underfoot.

If you look at them from a distance, they may all look the same. But if you bother to look a little closer, then you will see individual differences.

You can see that some of the flowers have bee open a little longer than others, some are more seasoned, some are more weathered, and none of them really look all that blue, the way they did at the start, for they are beginning to blush a very light pink.

The flowers themselves will all fade away, but the images of them will live on.

I enjoyed seeing the many types of phlox on your land. It is funny how people think flowers all need to look cookie cutter like, but most flowers vary from each other, just like people. I like flowers in nature, and the more beautiful flowers I see in my daily life and people posting online from their walks, it just makes it seem like paying a lot of money to buy some flowers is a bit silly.

Thanks, Julia. The tall phlox have not actually flowered yet, so I plan to do another post on them as soon as they does. I like flowers in nature better than those in a florist shop, too. But it is hard to send them half way across the country, unless we only send an image and not the flower itself.
